Two More Months
John Shea (soon to be renamed John
Citifield) at ESPN has the Mets - newly reinforced from the right side by the Alou signing - ranked first in his
list of the top lineups in baseball going into the season. I'll take it, despite a sneaking suspicion that he's just being contrarian by picking an NL team. But his number two choice? The Cubs.
The Cubs? Really? Better than the Indians? Better than the
Yankees? I carry no water for the Great Pinstriped Evil, but I just don't see how they're outgunned by the
Cubs.
Anyway, h/t to
Amazin' Avenue, where there's a
fun little thread speculating on how Willie will stack the lineup with Alou in the mix. Break up the lefty/righty pattern? Move Paul LoDuca out of the 2-spot? Rotate it based on a platoon in the corner outfield positions? I vote for number three, I think. Though of course you're not paying Alou all that money to sit out half the year.
