  Wolfy Screws Up Another One

Sorry for the lack of posts this morning. Turns out those taxes really won't do themselves.

So anyway, from the Where Are They Now files, here's the corrupt and incompetent Paul Wolfowitz in deep do-do at the World Bank:
Paul Wolfowitz, the president of the World Bank, was fighting for his job today after he was forced to make a humiliating apology over ordering a pay rise and a promotion for a bank official, Shaha Riza, who is his girlfriend.

The board of the World Bank met in Washington this morning to decide the fate of Mr Wolfowitz, the controversial former US Deputy Defence Secretary, amid mounting speculation that he could be forced to resign, or even be sacked, in what would be an unprecedented move.
Turns out Riza was being transferred to the State Department to avoid a conflict of interest. Wolfy intervened in the process, arranging for his girlfriend to get a promotion and an extra 60 grand per year.

This is a man who makes a self-righteous show of witholding World Bank funds from governments he and his inner circle deem to be corrupt. He is to the World Bank what John Bolton was to the UN: a blinkered and destructive neocon ideologue installed under the ludicrous cover of "reform." Fighting corruption, like spreading democracy, is a worthy goal. Which is why it's too important to be left to the tender mercies of the Wolfowitz/Bolton crowd.

Comments:
Most would not lump Bolton in with the neocons - unless ones definition is all things evil.

It's true Bolton doesn't come from the same policy shops as the other neocons, but in practice his aims have largely dovetailed with theirs: undercutting international institutions - a goal that some have described as the "glue" that binds the Bush foreign policy team - and launching an ideological crusade (in this case, "reform") at the UN.
